Alice Russell |
Little is known of Alice Russell, who is recorded as working at Doultons as a Junior Assistant in 1882.

The example of her work which we illustrate, where she worked as an assistant to one of Doultons great designers, Eliza Simmance, was made at some stage before 1891, when the word England had to appear with the Doulton mark on all items. This example is noteworthy for the precision of the workmanship that was an essential requirement for items decorated with mosaic patterns.
The image below of a Doulton work by Alice Russell shows her signature mark, which consists of an 'r' centred on four squares.
